Welcome to our family blog! In about 19 weeks we will meet our little man, Carson Allan Baxter! It’s hard to believe that July 6th is only a little over four months away. So, let’s rewind a bit…
Ryan and I met on March 27, 2010. Very soon after I told him that I was ready to get married and immediately after have a baby. I partially said this to try and freak him out, but I was completely telling the truth. He surprised me and agreed. Eight months later we were engaged and seven months after that we were married. Our decision to have a baby very soon after getting married has been one that neither of us has once questioned.
At approximately 6:15 a.m. on November 3, 2011 we found out that we are pregnant! We were actually pretty surprised, because I had taken a pregnancy test a couple weeks earlier, but I took that test way too early for anything to show up. I jumped in bed and cried as I showed Ryan the “stick.” The next day we were leaving for NYC, so we made a doctor’s appointment for when we returned and decided to not tell anyone until after our first appointment. It was definitely a very hard secret to keep for almost 2 weeks! Before (and even after) that first appointment I must have taken at least 10 pregnancy tests because I couldn’t believe it!!! I would come home from work a few days a week with a new pregnancy test- ha!
Telling the Parents
Since Ryan’s parents live only a few minutes down the road, we were able to tell them the great news the night of our first doctor’s appointment. Since we just came back from NYC, they thought we were just there to show them pictures of our trip. Ryan had all of our pictures from the trip loaded on his ipad, including one of me pointing to my belly. When Ryan’s mom got to that picture, she looked at us and said “what are you pointing at?” Within second she figured it out and we showed her our first sonogram! There was lots of happy tears and celebration. Ryan’s sister Jessica is due (with a girl- Violet June!) just a few weeks before us, so Tom and Diane (Ryan’s parents) will be first time grandparents with two babies back to back!!! We cannot wait to see Carson and Violet together!
My parents live about 18 hours away in Michigan, so we had to wait even longer to tell them. Luckily, they were coming in town for Thanksgiving (the week after our doctor appointment) so we got to tell them in person too! Since I had some time to plan, I decided to send them on a scavenger hunt (they once sent me on a scavenger hunt to open a Christmas present, so it was their turn!). We sent them all around our house with rhyming clues, with the last clue leading them to an envelope under the pillow in the guest room (now Carson’s nursery) that contained a sonogram picture and the due date. My parents knew that I had been hoping for a baby very soon, so they were beyond excited for us and we have since been skyping a lot in order for them to see my growing belly and the progress of their second grandson! I visited them right before Christmas and will see them in April…so they have gotten to see my belly (and Carson) grow in person too! :)
